The Cake

The one item that caused me some stress was the wedding cake. I had initially decided to make the cake myself since the design I wanted seemed simple and easy. Well, after attending a craft store and looking at all that would be involved, I panicked a little. I mean, there are cake pans of different heights, platforms of all kinds, how do you stack the layers and icing, well that's a story all on its own.
So, the cake was going to have to be bought. Checking out prices, I got ancy again. Over $200 was what most places were selling. Sure, $1.50 per slice isn't bad, that is until you add up for 100 people and then the tax on top of that.
Yikes, it was down to the last week and a half before the wedding and I had no idea what to do. The budget was maxed out and I have no baking skills.
I stopped at a little bakery near my house. They had a 6 inch round cake and a 9 inch round cake sitting in their display. "How much for one of each," I asked. Well, they were both under $20 each. So, here goes the questions:
1.
Can you make three sized, a 12, 9 and 6 inch?
2. Can you just put white icing on them, no other decorations?
3. How much to have you stack the three cake?
So, the baker and I decided to create a three tiered white cake with Vanilla Cream, stacked and iced with only white icing, no decorations. The grand total, $54.00. Can you believe it?!?!?!
I have my cake topper all ready to go and I will decorate the cake myself with fruit the day before the wedding.
The secret is to ask about making a cake without specifying that it is a wedding cake.
